Maggie Rader the volunteer coordinator for Backpack Meals for Kids supports a program providing weekend meal packs for children in the Bellevue School District. The counselors at each district school determine what children could best be supported by having extra food over the weekend. They are a volunteer run program supported by donations.

Maggie is looking for volunteers to help get the packs from the district warehouse (12037 NE 5th St.) to the individual schools. At this time they do not have a delivery driver for Tillicum Middle School. The packs need to be picked up Thursday morning around 9:15 am and delivered to the schools by 11:00 am. Their first delivery was Thursday, September 20th.

Maggie would like to spread this message to PTA members to see if there are volunteers that can help. Please note volunteers are not limited to volunteering at their child's school. Delivering to any school would be wonderful.

At the end of the 2017-2018 school year, this program was serving over 400 students per week. With a pack cost of about $8 each, this program is facing a large financial responsibility. If volunteers cannot delivery because it conflicts with work obligations but they would like to support the program, we would welcome financial donations. Our website is www.backpackmeals.org.
